The Forrestfield-Airport Link (FAL) was launched in August 2014. In 2015 a consultancy team was assembled to be part of a competitive tender process, awarded to Salini Impregilo-NRW Joint Venture in 2016. GHDWoodhead, together with WW+P, have been Lead Architects in this project. This session will outline the project, focusing on three new stations and ancillary buildings. These stations are part of a line extension with twin tunnels under the river and Airport and each has different purposes and unique design responses.
- How FAL will enhance the connectivity of Perth’s Eastern Suburbs and Hills whilst connecting the Airport to the City through affordable and reliable transportation,
- How FAL will cope with the increased demand of 20 000 passenger trips on the network each day by 2021- increasing to 29,000 daily by 2031
- Strategies to reduce congestion to five of the 11 worst congested roads in Australia by offering an alternative transport solution
- Strategies that help Project Parties to work collaboratively to better the delivery of improvements to the rail network with people at the forefront.
